Civic education delivered where Gambians live — in villages, on the radio, in newspapers and in the constituencies.
This delivery method is based on the premise that grassroots participation is fundamental to the development of civic knowledge, skills and values.
Open village meetings are used to share civic information and messages with communities. Women's and youth organisations play a central role in making these engagements succeed.
Radio and television are widely used in civic awareness creation. The strategy is panel discussions, live phone-ins and the airing of recorded spots and other special activities in which NCCE and its stakeholders are involved.
Programme schedule →The Gambia has a rich tradition of folklore drama. Folklore drama groups have traditionally been used for entertaining and educating people about important issues of public concern. The groups use songs and drama to convey civic education messages to the general public.
The expansion of newspapers in The Gambia — many now read across the country and abroad through online platforms — makes print a vital channel. NCCE prepares civic education content as articles and engages journalists to cover its forums and awareness campaigns.
Newspaper articles →Nationwide consultative dialogues gathering constituency-level input on the 2024 Draft Constitution, culminating in a final declaration submitted to the National Assembly.
The full declaration and dialogue reports will be published in the Resources library.
